Bail Bond Process
In most states, a "bail bond agent" writes something like a "check" to the court, to the sheriff's office, or to the jail's "release window"…for the entire amount of the bail amount so the defendant can get out of jail. The cost of this process is only a small part of the bond (usually about 10% of each bond, or 15% on an out-of-state defendant. There are also special charges for immigration bonds.). However, if the defendant does not show up for court, the "bail bond agency" is then responsible for paying the entire amount of the defendant's bond to the court.
Tips for Posting Bond
Your agent's first job is locating where the defendant is being held. Have the person's full legal name and date of birth ready when you call. If they may be booked under a different name, share that too — it helps us find them faster.
How to Find the Defendant
The first step is to know the city or county the defendant was arrested or detained in. It is helpful to know which agency arrested the defendant. If you do not know, it will be difficult for the "Bail Bond Agent" to find them.
How Long Will it Take?
Mississippi Bonding Company agents process all applications, credit cards, and deliver the necessary documents — Power of Attorney — to get your friends and family released as quickly as possible. From there, the timeline depends on the jail or release center: how efficient the corrections officers are, and how many people were arrested before your loved one. Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights, and holidays are usually the busiest. Realistically, in some counties it can be four to 10 hours after the agent delivers the documents before the defendant walks out. The sooner you call us with the information, the sooner we can start. Call 800-638-4088 now.
